Launch Editorial – L’AFRICAINE July 31, 2026, International African Women’s Day
Today, we take a first step.
It is small on the scale of the world. It is immense for us. And I hold the deep conviction that it will be immense, too, for every woman who will one day recognize herself in what we are building.
We did not choose this date by chance. July 31 is International African Women’s Day and in my eyes, there is no better day of the year to bring to life a project entirely devoted to them. It is a day that holds us accountable. A day that grounds us. A day that says, before even the first word of this platform: we exist for you, and this day belongs to you as much as it belongs to us.
L’AFRICAINE was not born from an idea that arrived in an instant. It is the fruit of a conviction I have carried, nurtured, reworked, and refined with patience because a vision as vast as representing the African woman in all her plurality could not be built in haste. It had to be done properly, with solid foundations, with the right people around it, with every idea weighed carefully so that it would faithfully serve a single mission: making L’AFRICAINE the ultimate crossroads for the African woman.
For all African women.
The one who lives in Lomé, Abidjan, Nairobi, Kinshasa, or Johannesburg. The one who grew up in Paris, London, Montreal, or New York, carrying the continent tattooed somewhere in her soul even if she has never set foot on it. The young girl still discovering who she is. The accomplished woman who has nothing left to prove but still has everything to pass on. The one who wears a veil, and the one who does not. The one who speaks Wolof, Lingala, Swahili, Arabic, English, French or all of these languages at once, in the very same sentence. The one who doubts. The one who shines. The one who shines and doubts, because the two never contradict each other.
We refuse to leave anyone behind.
This project is built to be a mirror, a place where every woman and every girl who carries this continent in her DNA can see herself, hear herself, feel at home. A space where the news that concerns us is handled with the rigor it deserves. Where our culture, our heritage, our spirituality are celebrated as the treasures they are. Where our daily lives, our wellbeing, our tables, our families finally find the place and the respect they are owed. Where our opportunities, our ambitions, our secret gardens have room to bloom. And where, together, we become a community, a true Ubuntu, that deeply African idea: I am because we are.
Let the light shine on all of us. Not on some. Not on an elite few. Not on a single story of what an African woman is supposed to be. On all of us, in our diversity, our contradictions, our richness.
This first step is small. I know that. But I also know that no great journey ever begins any other way.
So welcome. Welcome home.
